Storm water management and design is also one of the more challenging aspects to municipal engineering that Cabbiness Engineering enjoys. Mr. Cabbiness was in responsible charge for the $1.1 million dollar Downtown Regional Detention Facility project design in Edmond, Oklahoma.
This ambitious design concept provided ample storm water detention for a majority of the core downtown area of Edmond. Located west of the existing Santa Fe Railroad Tracks and north of Hurd Avenue, the facility has a dual role for the community as a much needed detenion pond and a small recrational park. The design included walking trails, a pedestrian bridge (as seen in the adjacent photo), reinforced concrete box culverts power jacked underneath the active railroad line to accomodate future storm sewer system upgrades, as well as a 500,000 cubic foot detention pond design. Although this project was mainly a drainage improvement project, the aspect of working with the Santa Fe Railroad for design approval and permitting showed the ability of Mr. Cabbiness to effectively commuinicate the client’s goals and objectives for a common solution between multiple stakeholders.
