Cabbiness Engineering was responsible for the Downtown Renaissance Water Line Relocations adjacent to the new Enid Events Center and Convention Hall.

Construction for the replacement and relocation of the water lines along Independence Avenue and Grand Avenue between Owen K. Garriott Road and Maine Street was completed in December 2012. The water lines required relocation in order to accommodate the increased water demand for new facilities in the area and future surrounding commercial development.

The construction of these new water mains was along the west side of the street, mostly placed under the curb and gutter. The total of 2,600 L.F. of PVC water line ranged in sizes from 6-Inches to 12-Inches in diameter. Additionally, the removal and replacement of this concrete curb and gutter adjacent to the new Enid Events Center was coordinated with the Enid Events Center general contractor.

While replacing and relocating the existing water line, many utility lines were identified to avoid any damage or interference with the water mains. Relocation of two gravity storm sewer drains was required to accommodate the new water line horizontal and vertical alignments. While constructing this new water line, it was imperative that Cabbiness Engineering work in conjunction with the city’s staff to ensure construction was completed well before the opening of the Events Center.

With any underground construction, the discoveries of unknown conflicts arise. With this project an abandoned bridge abutment and an abandoned paved drainage channel were encountered. Thus, Cabbiness Engineering worked with the City Staff and the general contractor to design modifications that would still accomplish the original design intent and yet still work within the established construction budget.
