In 2011, Cabbiness Engineering contracted with the city of Ponca City to prepare construction plans and specifications for problematic gravity sanitary sewer mains with new ones.
Three different areas were incorporated into this project:
-
Overbrook Avenue to just South of Summit Avenue
-
Overbrook Avenue and Ash Street
-
Prospect Avenue West of 14th Street
Calculations were made to determine the average and peak flows in the sewer lines in order to begin rehabilitation and replacement of the existing sewer collection system. Line A was approximately 1,180 linear feet of 10-inch sanitary sewer and Line B was approximately 200 linear feet of 8-inch sanitary sewer that were rehabilitated. Line C was approximately 575 linear feet of 10-inch sanitary sewer that was replaced by a 12-inch pipe size due to the higher flow of sewage. For these three lines, construction for the replacement of the existing gravity mains by trenchless construction was determined to be the most functional and feasible solution.
Trenchless construction reduces the impact on sidewalk and street traffic by minimizing surface interruption, which reduces the costs for surface restoration. The use of this method also reduces safety hazards involved with deep trenches and eliminates the critical utility conflicts that are common with the open cut methods.
With that, this project was completed for $229,391 after a final deduction of $13,441.
